Real estate success comes only with real effort, commitment, and patience. It is important to keep in mind that there are highs and lows and that it takes time to establish and build a client base for your business. With the proper training and support of your broker, a career in real estate can be both personally and financially rewarding.

A career in real estate provides flexibility and freedom to set your own pace. Income directly reflects your efforts, with no limits on what astute, hard-working individuals can earn. Successful people in real estate are goal-oriented, persevering, self-motivated, ambitious, and people-oriented. Working in real estate allows for independence and choices of environment in which to work, such as affiliation with a large or small firm as a listed salesperson. With more experience and upon the passing of an additional exam, becoming a real estate broker is the next step. Brokers can own their own businesses and employ other salespeople.

  • At least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Complete 75 hours of instruction in Real Estate Fundamentals (30 hours) and Real Estate Practice (45 hours). The passing grade is 75%.
  • Upon successful completion of the 75 hours of instruction, you will take a state licensing examination. The passing grade is 60%.
  • Submit a criminal record check.
  • Affiliate with a real estate brokerage.

In order to practice real estate in the state of Pennsylvania, you must complete two prescribed courses — Real Estate Fundamentals and Real Estate Practice — before you sit for the exam.

Real Estate Fundamentals – 30 Hours

Real Estate Fundamentals is one of two prescribed courses required by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission to qualify to take the State Real Estate Exam.

This course is designed to provide the student with a basic foundation for additional study and to support the practice of real estate in Pennsylvania. The course is designed to acquaint the student with the language, principles, and laws that govern the business of real estate. Emphasis is on the underlying concepts of land, property, rights in realty and the means, methods, and laws that govern the conveyance of these rights.


Real Estate Practice – 45 Hours

Real Estate Practice is one of two prescribed courses required by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission to qualify to take the State Real Estate Exam.

This course is designed to provide the student with an introduction to all facets of the real estate business. Emphasis is on the role of a real estate agent in the field of residential brokerage. This course is designed to acquaint the student with the basic techniques, procedures, regulations, and ethics involved in a real estate transaction, along with a working knowledge of the forms and documents used including the related mathematics.


Real Estate Exam Preparation

Prepare for the Pennsylvania real estate licensing exam with the area’s leading real estate education provider, the Greater Lehigh Valley Real Estate Academy. This exam prep course is professionally designed to help you maximize your study time and retain the most important information for exam day. Included are study and testing strategies, 12 mastery and fluency-based testing lessons, and five exams that cover more than 800 questions on national and state-level content. This course is a must for those interested in passing the state licensing exam on the first try!
